Introduction

UWODO’s experience in designing and conducting in depth interviews and focus group discussions include the project with Global Fund in working with Most Vulnerable Children (MVC). UWODO designed and conducted in depth interviews and focus group discussions with select community members, ward leaders, Most Vulnerable Children Committees (MVCC), CBOs, and FBOs that were providing services to MVC to learn about issues and needs of MVC in the various villages. In addition, UWODO conducted planning meetings with the district council, CMAC, and OVC program implementers in the area. Furthermore, UWODO conducted verification of the needs of MVC in areas of health services, education, shelter, clothing, and nutrition. This exercise required UWODO A to conduct in depth verification through MVCCs and house to house visits. UWODO’s work with FHI36O U3ANA funded by USAID, a youth project, entailed conducting group discussions with community members and community leaders to understand social norms that make youth vulnerable to HIV infection. Information gathered from these focus group discussions informed the design of issues to address in community activities. Through this project, UWODO participated in the DQA exercise; this experience further strengthened our M&E systems and thought us the importance of data quality.

UWODO has maintained a strong component of Monitoring and Evaluation for increased accountability. Through this component, the organization has successfully tracked articulated project plans and ensured that specified levels of outcome are being achieved. Through monitoring and evaluation, UWODO has also been able to provide evidence of achievement to funding agencies and other stakeholders of its interventions. Component analysis, devolved performance assessment, and systems analysis have formed the basis of UWODO’s Monitoring and Evaluation component.
